For most of its history, Monero has been discussed as a technology rather than as money. Cryptographers admire its ring signatures, regulators worry about its opacity, and exchanges have spent the last two years removing it from their listings. What gets less attention is the plainer question a holder eventually asks: what can I actually buy with it?
The answer in September 2026 is more than most people expect. Merchant trackers count over 1,400 businesses accepting XMR, with dozens added each month, and the categories have moved well beyond the VPNs and hosting plans that defined the early years. Below are five ordinary purchases that can now be settled in Monero, with an example store for each and the practical details a buyer should know. None of the stores are affiliated with the manufacturers whose products they sell, and none of the observations here should be read as a recommendation to buy anything.
Table of Contents
1. Apple products
Apple does not accept cryptocurrency, which has created a small ecosystem of independent resellers that do. Apple Bitcoin is the longest-running of them, trading since 2021, and stocks the current iPhone, MacBook, Mac mini, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods lines. Monero is one of more than fifty coins it accepts.
The mechanics illustrate how crypto-native retail has matured. Products are sold sealed with Apple’s own warranty. The checkout fixes the price for 20 minutes, so the XMR amount does not drift while the payment confirms, and it is non-custodial, meaning the store never holds the buyer’s funds. Delivery is free and insured, two to four days to North America and Europe, and returns are accepted within 14 days with refunds calculated at the original fiat value. The store publishes a 4.8-out-of-5 rating across more than 12,400 orders, which for a reseller with no card processor behind it is the number a cautious buyer should look at first.
2. Gold and silver
Precious metals are the natural counterpart to a private currency: the oldest way of holding value outside the banking system, bought with the newest. Bitgolder, a UK-registered dealer operating since 2023, sells 456 gold and silver products from refiners such as PAMP Suisse, the Royal Mint, Valcambi, Argor-Heraeus and the Perth Mint, all LBMA-certified, and accepts Monero directly along with some thirty other coins.
Two features stand out for anyone moving a meaningful sum. Prices track live spot with a published premium and are fixed in dollars for 15 minutes at checkout, and orders under $350,000 go through simplified due diligence with no identity upload. Shipping is insured, in unmarked packaging, to more than fifty countries, and there is a buyback programme at spot for the reverse journey. The store is also reachable over Tor, which says something about the customer it expects. With gold trading around a quarter below its January record and central banks buying at a record pace, the timing has attracted more than the usual interest.
3. Laptops, cameras, consoles, watches and perfume
The category that makes Monero feel like everyday money is general electronics and lifestyle goods. CryptoBitMart, operated by a UK-registered company, carries laptops and desktops, cameras and optics, gaming consoles and VR headsets, drones, phones, audio equipment, watches, perfumes, sunglasses and electric scooters, and lists Monero among the coins it accepts.
The terms are conventional retail terms rather than crypto exceptions: factory-sealed goods, free insured shipping to more than 180 countries, three-to-four-day delivery within the EU, US and Canada, a 30-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty. Payment is wallet-to-wallet with no account beyond a delivery address. That a games console or a bottle of perfume can be bought this way is unremarkable in itself, which is rather the point.
4. Mining hardware and hosted mining
Monero is mined on ordinary processors, but many of its holders also want exposure to Bitcoin and other proof-of-work coins without passing through an exchange. Buying the hardware outright with crypto is one route. Bull Miners stocks more than 170 ASIC models from Bitmain, MicroBT and IceRiver, along with hardware for Monero and other CPU and GPU coins, and accepts more than 25 cryptocurrencies.
Its position on “cloud mining” is worth noting for anyone tempted by the adverts: the company sells serial-numbered machines that the buyer owns, and describes cloud mining as a share of someone else’s hashrate with promised returns, a market it calls full of scams. Buyers who do not want a three-kilowatt appliance at home can have the machine hosted in one of 21 facilities at rates from $0.007 per kilowatt-hour, with mined coins paid to their own wallet and no fixed-term contract.
5. Flights, hotels and holidays
Travel is the category that surprises people most, partly because it is the one they least expect to leave off a card statement. Bitfares books flights on more than 600 airlines and stays at over two million hotels in 230 countries, and accepts Monero alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and stablecoins. Prices are displayed in US dollars and settled in the chosen coin.
The checkout runs on BTCPay Server, so funds go directly to settlement without a custodian; confirmation is immediate, with a booking reference; the quoted price is final; and a best-price guarantee refunds the difference within 24 hours if the same booking is found cheaper elsewhere. A hotel bill paid in XMR carries a network fee of a few cents rather than a card’s foreign-transaction charge, which is a modest saving on a short trip and a real one on a long-haul fare.
What a buyer should check
Monero payments are final, which shifts the due diligence to before the transaction rather than after it.
โข The price lock. Reputable stores freeze the XMR amount for 15 to 20 minutes. Paying inside the window avoids a mismatched invoice.
โข The exact amount. Scanning the invoice QR code rather than typing the figure prevents underpayments that stall an order.
โข Confirmations. Digital goods typically release after one or two blocks; expensive physical items after about ten, roughly 20 minutes.
โข The refund policy. Stores that refund at the original fiat value protect the buyer from a price move after purchase; not all do.
โข Reputation. Monero directories label merchants by trust level and carry verified-order reviews. A minute spent there is the only consumer protection the payment offers.
The bottom line
A phone, a bar of silver, a camera, a mining rig and a flight: none of these are exotic, and all of them can now be paid for in a currency that leaves no trace on a public ledger, from stores that ship worldwide and publish their terms. Whether that is a feature or a concern depends on the reader. That it is possible at all, in 2026, is simply a fact.
